Displaying iSheet table in dashboard

27237

I'd like to display an iSheet view in a dashboard on my home page. I was speaking with someone who said that the only way to do this is via custom code, but he did not elaborate.

My questions are:

1. Is there any way to do this directly through the HighQ dashboard edit feature (I think not, but figured I would ask)

2. If customization is necessary, would this involve creating an iframe in the dashboard, and pointing it to an external application that reads the isheet data and builds its own table to display? Seems like a lot of work to display something that is already in the HighQ system. If not, how would this be implemented?

Thanks

  • Chuck,

    A few thoughts.

First, regarding community etiquette. Unless I am wrong, it appears that when you posted your question you triggered a notification to go out immediately via email to ALL community users?

That means the system sent an email to likely over 1,000 users. Typically, this setting is kept at the default "Respect" value so that only users who are interested will be notified when they login next or receive a digest email.

Sadly, the answer to your first question is no. Although this feature has been requested for about a decade, HighQ has for reasons that are beyond me chosen not to implement such an obviously needed (and often requested) feature. I know one or two third party vendors offer such a feature (of course, at additional cost) through the marketplace. Personally, I think this feature should be included by default with Collaborate, which is expensive enough to begin with.

In terms of how to do this, there are lots of variations. Typically, that would involve writing some custom javascript and embedding that onto the page (not as an iframe). The javascript would access the iSheet data via the XML feed, as there is no additional authentication required, although the XML feed also has limitations. I do not believe you can use the REST API to access the data due to security concerns. There should be some other posts in the client community about how to do this.

There is likely a way to use a separate application to grab the data via the REST API and then expose that in an iframe. The problem with that is with seamless authentication so that the person who is logged in only has access to what they should have access to via the iframe.
