We still use the xml feeds for visualisations when HighQ's visualisations do not meet our needs.

Are there any plans to improve this or bring it more in line with the API response?

Use case -  we would like to create a link to files in our bespoke charts, but the data feed through the xml feed only contains file names. This information can be used to generate an exact file link. (folder /file id would be more useful here)

Additionally, is it possible to append this feed with an advanced search query?
